Español. English version below.
English. A visual chronicle of Bilbao's metamorphosis: from a declining industrial city to a metropolis of services, culture, and tourism. The author's photographs explore the city's distinctive corners and document the construction of landmark projects such as the Guggenheim Museum and the Euskalduna Bridge and Palace. Some, like those of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum or Zorrotzaurre, will soon be historic records of completed or ongoing works; others belong to the city's collective memory. Nineteen articles from urban, industrial, economic, and financial perspectives explain the history behind it: the port trade, iron mining, steelmaking, shipyards, and banking that forged Bilbao's essence, and the reinvention that followed the industrial restructuring of the 1980s. This book is more than a personal album: each photograph is a doorway to the history of the city and its people.
